In our current situation with this difficult economic time I believe that our schools, students and teachers are the areas that are being hit the hardest by our budget.  As I compare my observations with before and after the budget cuts I see the teacher having more students with disabilities in the classroom. When a teacher makes a decision to teach students with disabilities they know that this will be a challenging task for them to accomplish.  It takes a very patient and special person to work with students that have a disability.  This person should have a very passionate heart to helping all of their students reach their yearly goals. In order for the teacher to help each student they need a responsible aides to help in the classroom with the students during academic and activity time.  The teachers job may become overwhelming from time to time when they are not getting the adequate help to maintain a quality learning environment.  I think in order for the teacher to be able to teach quality lessons there needs to be one aide per five students in each classroom.  Some of the students with more severe disabilities require more attention from the aide or teacher.  If our schools need to cut back on expenditures it needs to be a different department due to the overwhelming stress it could put on the teacher with a SDC class.  If the district makes decisions to add more students to a class with disabilities they need to provide good resources and aides to help elevate the problems that could occur in the classroom during instruction.
